AN ACCOUNTANT FOR THE WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT PROJECT IN GABU 

SOS Children's Villages International is a global organization created in 1949 that works to meet the needs and protect the interests and rights of children who have lost parental care and those at risk of losing it. SOS Children's Villages International works through member associations in 135 countries around the world.

SOS Children's Villages in Guinea-Bissau is looking to recruit one (1) professional with immediate availability for the project "Women's Empowerment in the Gabu Region" funded by SOS Germany, with a duration of three (3) years, aimed at promoting women's rights, supporting women's financial autonomy and reducing Gender-Based Violence.

ACCOUNTANT :

Job Summary
 

·       eping the project's financial books up to date and in order in accordance with KDI's accounting procedures defined in KDI's financial manual.

·       Prepare monthly reports on project expenditure under the direction of the Regional Accountant.

·       Assisting in the preparation of the Annual Budget and Supplementary Budgets for the Project when necessary.

·       Ensuring compliance with accounting and purchasing procedures.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Checking bank records and cash returns on a monthly basis.

·       Preparing the monthly Bank Reconciliation Statements

·       Regularly update and code the Bank Register and petty cash books according to the standard SOS Chart of Accounts

·       Calling and visiting the bank (e.g. collecting money for small expenses) and paying creditors.

·       Assisting in the preparation of budget proposals requested by the Regional Accountant.

·       Keeping stock records for the stores and ensuring the safety, order and smooth running of the stores (if necessary)

·       The production of financial statements using "SOS Global". Two copies of each "Client" must be kept at all times, and each update must be saved on disk immediately after it is entered.

 

Qualifications and skills required:

  • University or high school degree in accounting
  • At least 3 years' experience as an accountant, preferably managing project accounts.
  • Ability to work in a team, good understanding of the SOS organization and its objectives.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, with experience in dealing with banks and other suppliers of services and materials.
  • Good command of Portuguese. Proficiency in a foreign language (English) is an advantage.
  • Solid work planning, execution and accountability skills.
  • Ability to develop work tools and their applications, as well as to absorb/assimilate training actions.
  • Good computer skills (MS Office), particularly Excel.
  • High level of moral integrity: role model for employees.
