SOS Children's Villages of Guinea-Bissau is a national non-governmental development association and a member of the International Federation of SOS Children's Villages that has been developing its activities since 1994.

Job Summary
Auntie SOS assists SOS Mothers between Family Homes, relieving those who are on leave or in need of assistance. She also helps the SOS Mother to provide the best possible education for the children in her care.

 

Main missions

  • Working together with Mother SOS as a "team" for the best interests of the children.
  • Replacing the SOS Mother whenever she is absent from the Family home. During the mother's leave or other days away from the village.
  • The SOS aunt lives in the family home and performs all the SOS mother's duties in her absence
  • Help Mother SOS ensure the well-being of children
  • Being sensitive to and understanding of children's needs
  • Helping the mother to ensure the child's physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual well-being
  • Knowing and supporting a child's rights and responsibilities
  • Spend quality time with each child individually, as agreed in the households
    family members assigned to them
  • Use appropriate parenting skills for each child's development
  • Support the SOS mother in guiding the children to take responsibility
  • Assisting Mother SOS with household chores
  • Helping the SOS Mother with the household chores so that the home is kept in good order
    conditions and for children to have quality time

  • Show healthy affection towards children
  • Be available for the children, offering them advice, guidance and support at times
    of their lives
  • Practicing basic life and communication skills, such as conflict management, constructing

  • Always support child safeguarding guidelines

 

Qualifications and skills required

  • Education: Full grade 12 school certificate
  • Willing to live in the SOS premises/house until retirement
  • Experience: 2 years Any mother's training attended/certified in childcare will be a plus.
