SOS Children's Villages of Guinea-Bissau is a national non-governmental development association and a member of the International Federation of SOS Children's Villages that has been developing its activities since 1994.

SOS Guinea-Bissau develops and manages a wide range of programs and projects in Bissau, Gabú and Canchungo, including family strengthening programs, youth programs, primary and secondary schools, kindergartens, a vocational training center and various community projects. Job Summary

The Youth Educator is responsible for monitoring and developing young people, accompanying them on the road to autonomy and preparing them for reintegration into their biological families.

 

Main missions

  • Leading young people through a process of transition from the youth facility/program to (semi) independent living. From the outset, the young adult is supported to take responsibility for themselves in the planning and process of their individual transition.
  • Taking responsibility for leading the process of the young people's Individual Development Plan (IDP), supported by the other educators and the SOS mothers.
  • Offer youth care activities specifically designed to cover issues such as career choice, life skills training, personal development and well-being, social awareness, service and community participation.
  • Consolidate young people's training in domestic skills in order to achieve the autonomy needed to maintain the place where they live as a welcoming and hygienic place in which cooperation, respect and appreciation for one another are daily guidelines.
  • Support young people after they leave the facility or program and make sure that the young person does not perceive this process as a deep break.
  • Create opportunities for contact with the family of origin, the SOS family and the community.
  • Maintaining permanent contact and cooperation between the SOS Children's Village and the members of the families of origin of young adults in semi-independence.
  • In the case of young adults who are to be reintegrated into their families of origin, the
    Youth is responsible for preparing and accompanying young adults throughout this process.
  • Encourage and assist each young adult in their participation and integration into the community and maintain social networks appropriate to their age, talents, interests and skills (leisure and sport, health, education, etc.).
  • Supporting the educational and professional development of young people.
  • The Youth Educator empowers young people to actively participate in making decisions that directly affect their lives.
  • It prepares and trains young adults to look for a job independently.
  • It encourages young adults to establish and maintain a secure financial situation.
  • It advises and guides young adults in competitive advantage programs for setting up small businesses.
  • It ensures that SOS mothers and families of origin are involved when important decisions affecting their young adults are made.
  • Support for SOS mothers and life in the Aldea.Soutien aux mamans SOS et à la vie en Aldea.
  • Supporting young people in administrative matters and ensuring that all the administrative routines
    young people's daily lives (financial and budgetary systems).

 

Qualifications and skills required

  • Education Have a degree in the field of pedagogy, psychology, education, management and/or similar.
  • ExperienceProven experience of more than two years in child and/or youth care.
  • Be in good physical and mental health.
  • Have a good knowledge of Portuguese. Additional knowledge of English or French is desirable.
  • Be interested in working with young adults.
  • Have a stable and mature personality.
  • Have educational and psychological skills (caring for children and young people).
  • Have a basic understanding, planning, implementation and monitoring of child, youth and family development.
  • Knowledge of the national child welfare and rights/child protection system.
  • Self-management skills and a sense of responsibility.
  • Proactive approach.
  • Perseverance and patience
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Proficiency in computer tools: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, e-mail.
  • Patience and tolerance
  • Conflict resolution.
