National Advocacy and Communications Coordinator - SOS Children's Villages in Guinea-Bissau

Why do we need you?

We are looking for an Advocacy and Communications Coordinator who will lead the communications department, ensuring a consistent and effective flow of information, both internally and externally.

Tasks and responsibilities

The Advocacy and Communications Coordinator will be responsible for:

Communications:

·      Participating in the implementation of the communication strategy to promote the organization's vision and mission, ensuring the visibility of achievements.

·       Develop high-quality, well-researched and well-written communication materials and ensure effective dissemination through various channels (web, print and audiovisual).

·       Accompanying fundraising campaigns, supporting the fundraising team in external communications and adapting content for all channels, online and offline.

·       Develop and ensure constant communication with donors in order to build their loyalty and trust in the organization.

·       Organize and supervise the preparation and implementation of all SOS communication activities with the media, external parties, staff and beneficiaries of SOS Children's Villages programs;

·       Producing regular reports on the brand's communication and activities.

 

Brand promotion:

·       Make the brand elements vibrant, understandable and attractive to bring prospects closer to our mission and build loyalty among donors and partners;

·       Develop the capacity of both the country office and programme colleagues by organizing orientations, trainings, workshops and dialogues on issues that can enhance or detract from the SOS Children's Villages brand to constantly support the definition, contextualization, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the brand in the country;

·       Monitoring reputational risks related to the brand in the country, supporting and making recommendations to the national management team

·       Actively participate in the brand development project and in sharing best practices within the Federation of SOS Children's Villages, namely through the regional network of Brand and Communication Managers.

·       Participate in key meetings/conferences and seminars as needed and as funds become available to promote the organization's image.

 

Public Relations:

·       Strengthen the image, reputation and public relations of Aldeia de Crianças SOS;

·       Identify and engage with the main media and key journalists to proactively position the organization's issues and messages on the national news agenda.

·       Taking the lead in coordinating media involvement in SOS Children's Village activities in Guinea-Bissau, including press releases, coverage and dissemination of the National Association's events in the written and electronic press; especially activities that require media coverage.

·       Review and approve content shared on our social media accounts or website.

 

Advocacy:

·       Ensure the development of a national advocacy strategy and action plan in line with the country context and WCNA's Regional Advocacy Strategy and SOS Children's Villages International's 2030 strategy.

·       Participate in key child protection activities, networking activities and the advocacy platform.

·       Ensure the participation of children and young people in advocacy actions

·       Training children and young people on the importance of advocacy and their right to participate

·       Organize children's rights days

·       Identify campaign themes relevant to the National Association and ensure their implementation

 

Requirements

·       Master's degree in social sciences, humanities, development studies, law, public policy, children's rights, international relations, communications or related fields

·       At least 4 years of work experience in advocacy and communications, non-profit organizations or international development is preferred;

·       Solid experience in advocacy work, as well as in-depth knowledge of policies, laws, regulations and regulatory frameworks in Guinea Bissau, focusing on children

·       Knowledge of social development issues such as child protection, education, community/program development, community health, child and youth development or related field

·       Demonstrated experience in leading or coordinating advocacy or communications campaigns

·       Interpersonal Relationships: Knowledge and ability to interact effectively within and between Divisions, Departments/Regional Offices in a constructive and collaborative manner.

·       Excellent communication skills in Portuguese, French or English (spoken and written)
